Adding a Filipino voice to the Chorus

Baritone and dynamic front row performer Mae Atendido was recently interviewed on SBS Radio about her experience as the only Filipina in Northern Beaches Chorus. This is something Mae would love to change and she aims to inspire other Filipinos to join choirs. The family environment of NBC and deep love of singing shared amongst all members instantly made her feel part of the community. Listen to the interview (Filipino).

A familiar face on the Sweet Adelines International Board of Directors

One of our members has been appointed for a one year term of the Sweet Adelines International Board of Directors (IBOD) from May 1 2017 to April 30 2018. Sharon Cartwright sings in our Bass section and is the Bass of five-time regional medallists Sista! Quartet. She served as the Team Coordinator on the Regional Management Team here in Australia until her appointment began and is a former Team Coordinator of Northern Beaches Chorus. We’re proud to be part of regional history as Sharon is the first from Australia to serve as a member of the IBOD.

We are also thrilled that Mary Rhea, Music Director of Oklahoma City Chorus and regular NBC coach has been elected for a three year position to the IBOD. Congratulations Sharon and Mary!

Proud supporters of the Sydney Eisteddfod

We’ve been enthusiastic competitors in the Eisteddfod for many years. This year, we’ve taken it one step further with an in-kind sponsorship! Singers in the Choirs events being held at The Concourse Theatre, Chatswood on 28 & 29 May stood on the choral risers we have loaned them. In return, our advertisement featured in the Eisteddfod program. We will give an in-kind sponsorship again in 2017.

We are proud that one of our ensembles ’11 Decibelles’ took First Place in the brand new Small Vocal Groups event and the Chorus was a finalist in The John Lamble Foundation Australasian Open Choral Championships held at Sydney Grammar School at 6pm on June 19.
